How to be Motivated Without Motivation

Updated: Nov 10, 2022

Motivation seems to be one of the most common things people are waiting for to just come along one day. They think once they get it, then they will finally feel like going to the gym. Just like everyone else who goes to the gym regularly right? They have motivation so that's why they keep going to the gym? No. Not at all.

Do not wait for motivation. Do not rely on motivation.

Motivation is a feeling. It comes and goes. You will never be consistent if you rely on motivation to fuel you. Consistency is KEY if you want to get results.

How To Be Consistent

It takes effort and control to make the right decision for your body because it's easy to be lazy. Believe me, there are many days I would rather lay in bed all morning instead of going to the gym. I just know that if I don't get up and go to the gym, I will never reach my goals.

If you want to be consistent, you need to be disciplined.

This does not mean to go about discipline with an all or nothing attitude. This does not mean constant restriction, or punishment. It's balance.

Discipline means having authority over yourself and your decisions. It means regulating your behaviour. It's understanding YOU are in control of the decisions you make whether they are good or bad. Stop making excuses. Only YOU are responsible for your health and well-being. Not your family, not your partner, not the government, not the healthcare system. YOU.

Finding Your WHY

To be disciplined, you need to find your WHY

Finding your WHY creates a purpose. When life gets busy and tough and when it's easy to make excuses, remember why you are doing this in the first place.

Your why should be specific and have meaning behind it.

So, why are you doing this?

To lose weight? Why?

To be healthy?

To gain fuller range of motion?

To feel more confident?

To be strong? Why?

To be more independent?

To be able to defend yourself?

To relieve stress? Why?

To lower your blood pressure?

To be a better spouse?

To be a better parent?

Be specific when you find your why. The more meaning you can attach the better.

Don't wait for motivation. Don't wait for that perfect time to get started.

Create it.

Do it.

Live it.

You are in control of your decisions. You CAN achieve your goals. You've got this!
